Places to shop

Here are some of the places I get my groceries:

El Maizhttp://www.elmaiz.ch/

Thai Shophttp://www.josefstr13.ch/
They also do take out and have amazing food - it changes daily though. If you find something you like, you can ask when they will make it again - they have a calendar.

Di-Fr 10:30-19:00
Sa 9:30-17:00

Asia Food http://www.asia-store.ch/

Zurich Haubtbahnhof
Hall Sihlquai
Konradstrasse 1

Turkish Grocery - EGE Import
They have incredible fresh bread and the butcher inside has good prices.

Josefstrasse 53
8005 Zurich

There is an Indian grocery farther down Josefstrasse as well but I can not remember the name of it right now. They have a big selection and I've been able to find everything I needed there.

Another Asian store, that I have not yet been to is the New Asia Market
Feldstrasse 24, 8004 Zürich

Online Shopping:
American Food Avenue
American Market
Taste of America (have not ordered from them yet)

Migros
www.leshop.ch
You can find some things online that aren't in the store (migros in-store does not sell alcohol for example). Some of the different stores also carry different items.

Coop
www.coopathome.ch
As with Migros, you can find different things different places - so just because you can't find something in one store, doesn't mean you won't at another

Lidl
Webpage here
I haven't been able to get all my groceries here, but they do have some bargains.
Decent bread selection, Large alcohol section
Some chips/rice/pastas are cheaper
Soda appears to be the same as Coop/Migros
Some toys, cheap diapers
and some household/seasonal items (ie Singer sewing machine for 99chf this week)

Back-Art
http://www.back-art.ch/new/
Available in German and English, this is a great place to find everything from rolled sugarpaste, to meringue powder, cake pans, decorating books, cookie cutters and all sorts of sprinkles.  I've ordered a few times with them and am always very happy.  I think the longest its taken is 3 days to get my order, but you also have the option of picking it up.

Character Cake Pan Rentals
http://www.bringbackform.ch/agb.htm
My neighbor introduced me to this site.  It seems really good. You get to rent a cake pan for 10 days. They also have various decorating materials.  I haven't tried it yet, but if you do, I'd love to hear some comments on it.

Kidsparty - Leimbachstrasse 66, 8041 Zürich
www.kidsparty.ch
This is a fantastic little store (If you have lived in the US, think a mini Party City) that has lots to offer. You can buy a wide variety of both boys and girls supplies, decorations, and favors. The favors you can buy individually so you aren`t stuck with 10 boy things and 10 girl things when you have only a few of one at a party.

The store is right across from the Leimbach station, and there is one visitor parking spot. If you continue driving up the road, there are white/blue zone parking areas.

The owner speaks German and fantastic English! She will be closing the actual shop in June, but will update and continue with the website. Go see her before she closes so you can browse the wonderful items (also great for Advent calendar goodies).
